Project done in Kindergarten- My first response was you have to be kidding me- You are spending time on this instead of the essentials
These are the assessments my 2nd or 3rd grader had to complete every quarter- Students must assess themselves on the learner profiles- what are they doing right and how can they improve- their is nothing in this assessment that touches on learning goals- this is not what I intended the first few years of school to be focused on- Attitudes and learner profiles- The assessment policy is listed  below.

Dumbing Down my Kids

Since when did school become so expensive and so off track- Growing up we had a chalkboard and overhead projector- Now ours kids have Ipads and Plasma flat screen TVs- Laptop computers- - This is my journey as a mom of two children in a PYP ( International Baccalaureate school) The sole mission of a PYP school is to create global citizen and promote a global outlook on learning- Our 4th graders project this spring is to help the poor children- Never mind the fact we do this within our church and family- we volunteer and donate- I find that the mission of this curriculum- framework - whatever they call it is- is too simply ignore those core academics- those crucial facts that we need in order to be productive and contributing Americans- Instead we look at the world from a global perspective- we look at ourselves as spoiled Americans who feel guilty for having clothes- food-a home- Never mind that their mom worked and went to school for 10 years to finally earn a living or that their dad works long days and rightfully earned them- Since 2008 we have suffered through grueling global programs and school performances that are not even in English- We have had the learner profiles grilled into our heads- the learner profile songs and attitudes to the point of going crazy- knowledgeable, risk-taker, caring, reflective,balanced,communicators,open-minded,principled,inquirers and thinkers- I will post the assessments and forms these kids feel out- where they evaluate themselves on these profiles and think of ways to become better at achieving these goals of being world thinkers with the attitudes of PYP which are: respect, tolerance, confidence, empathy, commitment, cooperation, curiosity, appreciation, creativity,Independence, and enthusiasm
